Sample Examination Questions

Section A β€” Conceptual (Example)

Question: "The c-Ξ£CO Statute establishes that 'no right subsists outside the biophysical conditions that render it possible.' Explain how this principle resolves the apparent conflict between contractual certainty and systemic unpredictability. Address specifically: (a) why this is not a public policy exception to contract law, and (b) how it differs from force majeure doctrines."

Section B β€” Quantitative (Example)

Question: "A mining operation reports the following: Current water table depth = 45m; SOS boundary = 30m; Reference state (2000) = 80m; Annual decline rate = 2.5m/year (accelerating at 0.3m/yearΒ²); Measurement uncertainty = Β±10%; Immediately mobilizable restoration capital = $12M; Projected technical cost of aquifer restoration = $25M. Calculate: (a) P with asymmetric uncertainty, (b) Ξ”V over 5-year horizon, (c) Lr, (d) resulting prudential band."

Section C β€” Applied (Example)

Question: "You are the newly appointed Chief Sustainability Officer of a major European bank. The Board has adopted c-ECO principles for climate risk management. Your Head of Retail Banking argues that mortgage lending should be exempt from TFP analysis because 'housing is a social good and we can't stop lending.' Your Head of Investment Banking wants to apply TFP only to coal and oil, not to 'transition-enabling' gas infrastructure. Draft a 2-page memorandum to the CEO articulating: (a) why both positions are inconsistent with c-ECO architecture, and (b) a proposed governance framework that addresses legitimate concerns while preserving systemic integrity."
